Your cursive is dreamy.
thanks kandis. i should use it more. i need more cursive in my life.
I’m loving how rough and sketchy the monsters are–like nightmare visions. So cool! More, please!
thanks pally. zack should get you doing a comic on here. hell yes.
This is awesome!!!
it’s so raw and delicate at the same time… thanks for sharing.
that is very nice way of putting it. i was thinking maybe it felt too sloppy but i like your description better. thanks
I like the mix of the monsters and the emotional tone. And the art and story both are great.
thank so much, alex. just went to your blog. i need to check out edinburgh.
I look forward to her turning into a Mantis! : )
Nice work.
hey tim, you are one of the best. thanks. and i haven’t worked out how that mantis thing will come into the story yet. i have lots of drawing to do. my own hell/heaven i have created.
i’m like your stuff, having come across Omega man, with it’s clean lines, but with a certain roughness to them, and a courageousness to experiment and do things differently, and really that’s what i was looking for on your site. i liked the squirrel vision, as well as the inclusion of a squirrel in the comic, since they seem to be the one kind of animal that i still see nowadays most frequently. The animorph ability was pretty sweet, as well as the precision of the hit that you got when she turns into girl in the midst of the circle of people. Good Job.
I aspire to do comics as loose and fun as this. Enjoy the Heaven/ Hell you created!
thanks, tim. you know you are one of my favorites.

Wonderful stuff, Farel. I love the sketchbook-energy in a lot of the drawing.
[…] I have been a fan of Farel Darlrymple’s art for years, so I was rabidly psyched that he did a drawing for DIY Magic. In fact maybe I’ve posted about that here before? But you gotta see this – Darylrmple is doing an ongoing webcomic over at Study Group Comics. You owe it to yourself to glance around the office, make sure no co-workers are watching, and then enjoy the stream of conscious work of art in progress that is IT WILL ALL HURT. […]

Hey there, I just wanted to say I think this comic is amazing and very inspiring. As an artist myself, I’ve dreamt of the crossover to comics from fine art and this comic is a great demonstration of that aesthetic and idea. I love your story and how you never stop to explain anything, the exposition is abandoned and instead the narrative has a dream-like and more organic feel to it. plus I love your art style, it captures that freeness and dream-like essence that I want more of in comics.
I’ve been thinking of submitting something here myself, anyone know of how to go about the proper channels on how to submit proposals/samples around here?
thanks.

[…] http://studygroupcomics.com/main/it-will-all-hurt-by-farel-dalrymple/ 2.5/5 – The comic version of a strangely fantastic dream Premise It Will All Hurt describes itself as “a weird, sad, silly, and sketchy, fantasy adventure strip with magic and science-fiction and some fighting action.” There are currently three “parts”, each a couple of pages long, and it’s currently updating once a week as of this writing. It’s also currently up for an Eisner award, the full list of candidates is available here: http://www.comic-con.org/awards/will-eisner-comic-industry-award-nominees-2013. I’ll be reviewing all of the webcomics here – this is the second one I’m doing. So far I have determined that to be Eisner nominated a comic has to be really weird. Hopefully the rest of the entries will break that trend. What’s Awesome About It? I’m not entirely sure where to start with this one. The first thing that stuck out to me was the art, so I’ll go with that. The art is in color, and it’s a unique, sketchy style that lends the comic a sort of roughness that I think works well with its strange, disjointed story. Basically, the best way to describe this comic is that it’s a weird, interesting fantasy-based dream someone made a comic out of. Things just sort of happen without any particular reason as to why, although you may have a good time speculating as to why yourself. Much like dream as well, I get the feeling this comic is more about an overall impression as opposed to a defined narrative or technically impressive, strictly representational art. My Thoughts Personally, I’m not really sure what to make of this comic. After reading the entire archive I still have very little as to what it’s about, where it’s going, or why. That said I certainly didn’t feel like I wasted my time. Not to harp on the metaphor, but much like a dream I felt like it was just an interesting experience to have had. While I thought the comic was interesting, I wouldn’t say it’s a must-read, particularly. While the artsy, dreamlike qualities were unique, I felt like the detracted from any sort of coherent structure that makes you want to keep reading the story. Overall, I feel like if you enjoy somewhat strange experiences or just like to look at quirky art, you’d enjoy It Will All Hurt. It’s also a quick read, so it couldn’t hurt to give it a shot if you want to check out something pretty different from your standard webcomic fare. […]
