This episode: Dustin Weaver!

Please welcome Dustin Weaver to the party floor! Dustin is the co-creator of the recent S.H.I.E.L.D. series with writer Jonathan Hickman, and writer/artist on multiple other Marvel comics, as well as some stints on TMNT & Star Wars properties. We definitely talk about all of that stuff, and do a deep dive on his time at Marvel in particular. Mike & Zack have a lot of questions about how the sausage gets made! But the main reason we’re here is to talk about his recent one-man anthology at Image Comics, Paklis. Standing relatively apart from the mainstream comics world where he made his mark, Weaver took his name recognition to Image to pursue more personal material. Dream comics sit side-by-side with space opera and surrealist experiments, and rough hewn sketchiness gives way to meticulous sci-fi set pieces, often in the space of a single page. What’s up with Paklis? Learn about Dustin’s first meeting with Jim Lee! Why was SHIELD so damn late? And much much more!

Also: Mike Has a new comic on the Nib that made Zack kinda sad! And the Secret Voice Kickstarter is fully backed and met it’s hardcover stretch goal!

PS: DON’T FORGET! We’ve finally launched our super cool Process Party Patreon! If you enjoy the pod and want to help support us in what we do, now is your chance to kick in. There’s a few reward tiers available, including the low low $1/month, but if you subscribe at the $3 or $5/month level, you will get access to an exclusive Patreon-only Real Talk podcast feed! That’s a whole extra podcast for less than 1$/episode of the main feed!

If the main Process Party podcast is like being in the mix chatting with cartoonists at a convention party, Process Party: Real Talk is the afterparty, when the walls come down and the real talk, advice and gossip flow freely!  With every interview, we ask our guests to impart a little *extra* bit of wisdom, some nuts & bolts how-to info or philosophy, and of course a heavy dose of every cartoonist’s number one concern: GETTING PAID IN COMICS! These minisodes contain exclusive content not included in the regular podcast!

Our guests come from a variety of backgrounds and places in their careers, and they all have advice for you. From how to mentally balance comics and day-jobs, to nuts and bolts advice about turning comics panels into cold hard cash. Hear exclusive tidbits about the industry, insider stuff that’s  too hot to include in the public podcast, and more.

Patrons also get access to selected transcripts from past episodes! Do you like reading your podcasts? Well we got you (partially) covered!

Episode 35 of Real Talk is with Josh Simmons! Get in on the ground floor of the Process Party Patreon and make sure you don’t miss an episode of Real Talk! Real Talk updates (almost) every Thursday only for Patreon subscribers.

Also: There are 10 Episodes of Process Party After Party up behind the paywall!
After Party was our weekly jibba jabba podcast originally for 5$/month subscribers! The idea was basically that we’re gonna get together and talk about the books, movies or comics that we’ve both been reading, and we did that weekly for a while but honestly it started to feel too much like work, so we’re folding it back into the main part of the podcast at no cost. BUT! Sign up for the Patreon and you’ll have 10 awesome episodes to listen to.
