Tazmanian enfant terrible Simon Hanselmann is here at the Process Party! Simon is of course the creator of the wildly popular Megg & Mogg comics currently being collected by Fantagraphics Books. His wife & Fantagraphics’ publicist Jacq Cohen is also on hand and we were happy to have her join the discussion.
We kick things off with a discussion of Simon’s musical performance at the Fantagraphics 40th Anniversary party, which leads naturally to his upcoming 2Dcloud release DRONE v2, which is part of their current Kickstarter push. It’s a one off mini that is a darkly comic episode of the continuing adventures of Megg & Mogg & company, but it’s also a tribute of sorts to Simon’s recently deceased friend Carl (the real life inspiration for the Werewolf Jones character).
From there, it’s on to Simon’s legendary workaholic creation schedule, autobiography, family, addiction, and the bleakness of the Tazmanian singles scene. We take a look at his recent mini-comics release Landscape, which was a stealth Truth Zone release. His approach to satire & takes on the current comics scene are the focus of this comic, and we dig into that a bit. Simon is currently in the home stretch of his deadline push for his upcoming book One More Year, and we are thankful he was able to take the time out to talk to us, because this is a fun & spirited episode!
